Omega Seamaster 300m
The watch that spawned a million watch collectors.
I, like a lot of you, was a child of the '90s. Surrounded by neon Fat Willy bumper stickers and tie-dye T-shirts you breathe on to change colour. The pinnacle of 'cool' at the time...Until Goldeneye came along.
Suddenly fine tailoring and high-end accessories were thrust into my adolescent brain. Pierce Brosnan oozed everything I wanted to grow up to be, suave, smouldering and he could deliver a one-liner with aplomb. It was time to put down the N64 controller and get this watch!
I know I fell hook, line and sinker into the most blatant brand placement possible, but I didn't and don't care. What we have here is not just a timepiece, it represents a shift in mentality from child to adult, from gungey skater boy to sophisticated international spy.
The first time I saw the 300m I knew I must have it, the way it was held like a regular watch but with the weight of something so much more important. almost as much as a companion as R2 was to Luke and with the capacity of a swiss army knife on coke.
This is accentuated by the diver's clasp and 10 o'clock helium valve. Two accessories I will never use, but give the 300m that 'tool watch' feeling.
This isn't a replica, this is the real thing. This is James Bond's watch.
